Please help to save dog parks & dog
beaches by observing the following etiquette tips!
- Keep your pet on leash if there isn't a sign stating
that dogs may run off-leash.
- Always carry a leash even in a leash-free area.
You never know when you may need it.
- Don't let your dog harass other pets, people, or
wildlife.
- Make sure your dog has reliable recall if you
allow him to run off-leash.
- Always keep your dog in sight and within voice range.
- Make sure your dog is up-to-date on his vaccinations.
- Don't bring female dogs in heat to the dog park.
- Don't bring young puppies. Their immune systems are not
yet fully developed.
- Never bring more dogs than you can handle if a situation
were to arise.
- Don't bring toys - they may cause guarding or territorial issues.
- If your dog starts behaving aggressively, leash him
immediately and leave.
- Leash-free areas are not suitable for aggressive dogs.
- No digging! Fill in any holes your dog has created.
- Respect the rules of the dog park.
- Clean up after your dog... every time!
In Canada, dogs are usually permitted in most regional,
provincial, and national parks, but must be leashed.
Signs are generally posted where dogs are not permitted in
these parks (for example, in environmentally-sensitive areas).
Likewise, signs are posted to indicate "off-leash"
areas. Dogs are generally not permitted on public beaches
except where posted. If in doubt, contact the park office.
This list is believed to be accurate but is not guaranteed
to be so. Park regulations may change from time to time.

Dog Parks & Beaches in British Columbia (BC)
|
Reader/Visitor Tips:
- From Ralph M. - "Galiano Island, BC has many dog-friendly trails
and areas that dogs can roam both on and off leash. Greys Peninsula in Montague Harbour
Marine Park allows dogs on leash. It is a 30 minute walk along the waters edge on a
well marked trail. Bodega Ridge is a 35 minute hike along a ridge which ends in a
panoramic view of Trincomali Channel and Saltspring in the distance. Galiano's country
roads lend themselves to off leash walks with well trained dogs that will return on command."

Reader/Visitor Tips:
- From Pam O. - "There is a Red Deer off-leash dog park
called Three Mile Bend located on Riverside Drive North. It is a huge place,
some parts along the river, very popular with dog people.
Also, one of the best dog parks in Edmonton is the Buena Vista -
Great Meadow dog park. Just drive to the Edmonton Zoo, and instead of turning
right to park in the zoo parking lot, turn left to park at the off-leash dog
park. Miles of trails, fields and parts along the river for swimming dogs.
Another popular place for dog people."
- From Diane V. - "There are two off-leash parks in
Canmore. One is right at the junction of the #1 Hwy and the #1A Hwy
(not the nicest) and a much better one on the road to the Nordic Centre
near Quarry Lake on the left."
- From Melody E. - "Jasper has an off leash
dog park within the townsite. It is a small park on the corner of
Elm Avenue and Pyramid Lake Road."

Dog Parks & Beaches in Ontario

Reader/Visitor Tips:
- From Virginia A. - "In Burlington, Ontario, there's a great leash-free
area within Bronte Park Provincial Park. There is a small park admission fee
(half and full-year passes available), but the leash free zone features trails for
owners and dogs to walk so the dogs aren't bunched up in corners. Leashed dogs are
welcome in the rest of the park zones. To reach the leash-free area, exit at Burloak
Drive (from the QEW). Turn north and the park entrance is just above Mainway on the
right hand side of the road."
- From Elaine G. - "I wanted to let you know that Kincardine, Ontario
is a dog-friendly beach. The beach is very long and you can walk forever it seems. There is
also a boardwalk along the side of the beach and there are many trails available too."
- From Jennifer S. - "Just letting you know about two dog parks in Ontario. One is in
Woodstock, Ontario at Southside Park (large fenced in area with trees for shade)
and the other is at Bechtel Park in Waterloo, Ontario (large open area but no trees).
Also there is a dog beach and off leash area at Wasaga Beach, Ontario.
Love all three of these places and highly recommend them!"
- From Megan D. - "There is a new dog park located in Brockville
on Broadway Avenue. There is an arena at this location, and the park is behind that.
It is a large fenced park with a separate area for puppies. The adult dog park is
called 'Rotary Off Leash Dog Park' and the Puppy park is called 'Barkville Puppy Park'."
- From Daniela P. - "In Oshawa (Durham Region) we have an 'official'
leash free dog park - part of Harmony Conservation Area. It's a very nicely maintained
park, where volunteers as well as Oshawa Park authority have done a wonderful job."

Reader/Visitor Tips:
- From Haidee W. - "At Summit Circle Park/Bird Sanctuary in Montreal,
located in the heart of Westmount on the mountain, dogs are allowed off-leash all year round
except April 15-June 15 (nesting period). Dirt trails meander through the park which is
mostly forest. My dog loves it and meets lots of other friendly dogs every day."
