Can you help me book a reservation?
We do not directly book reservations for visitors.
Please search or browse through the list of PET FRIENDLY
web pages. Please contact the accommodation directly
if you have questions or would like to book reservations.
It's a good idea anyways to talk to them and confirm their
current pet policies and rates!

Do these accommodations accept all types of pets?
Not necessarily. Each accommodation has its own pet policy,
which is stated on its listing. However, you should contact
them prior to booking to ask for details. Pet policies can and
do change.
Many pet owners are concerned that some rentals allow only
small dogs, or only allow pet-toting travelers to stay in
smoking rooms. Here at PetFriendly Canada, we know that many
big dogs are excellent guests, and that many pet owners are
also non-smokers! We are working to show property managers
how they can benefit from catering to pet owners. However,
these common pet policies have been in use for quite some
time now, and they won't change overnight.
In the meantime, you can help us -- and all traveling pet
owners -- by leading by example! Demonstrate that your pets
are good guests... and over time, hopefully we can influence
a change in pet policies.

What rules are there for bringing my pets to a hotel/accommodation?
Prior to booking your stay, always contact the accommodation and ask for details
about their pet policy. Most accommodations have certain rules, eg. pets cannot be
left unattended in guest rooms (ask for suggestions on doggy daycares or pet-sitters);
extra pet fees may apply; pets usually have to be leashed in common areas; and pets
are usually not allowed in dining areas or pools.
Every accommodation is different so it's best to ask. Some will also require guests
to sign a "Pet Waiver" upon check-in.

I have a pitbull/rottweiler/other controversial dog breed. Can I travel with him?
Unfortunately, some cities and towns in Canada prohibit certain dog breeds. Leave ample
time to do your research before you bring your dog. Accommodations must abide by local
laws as well, so they would not be able to legally welcome your pet. Call the city or
town's Animal Control division and ask. If you have a mixed-breed dog, be sure to ask
for clarification on what they consider a prohibited dog breed (is it a pitbull, for
instance, if it simply looks like one?).

How come my search results return listings that don't exactly match the city I entered?
When you search for a particular city or town, the search
results will return to you the properties in that city or town
plus others that are close by.

Are there any regulations or restrictions for bringing my pet into Canada?
Yes. The Canadian
Food Inspection Agency is responsible for the
National
Animal Health Program, which includes import requirements
for pets. You should visit
their website to find out what types of vaccinations, etc.
your pet needs before entering Canada. Contact them directly
if you have further questions.
Also note that you should check into any regulations required
for your pet to return to your own country.
